The winery is situated in Peasmarsh, East Sussex, at the house where Ben has just moved to. A wild vine was discovered on the land and last year it produced a surprisingly big crop of, as yet unidentified, red grapes.
"Its unruly fruitfulness seems somehow symbolic of the wine adventure that Ben is embarking on, a mixture of detailed planning and last-minute improvisation." Les Cave De Pyrene
Ben is currently in the process of planting a vineyard on the land, predominantly south-facing. Grapes include Ortega, Siegerebe, Bacchus, Gamay, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. It will be 2020 before these vines will produce usable fruit, so until then, Ben will be sourcing grapes from other local vineyards.
Qvevri (large Georgian egg shaped clay pots) are used in the production of the wine, buried underground and surrounded by shingle sourced from Dungeness.
Come meet Ben and learn more about his exciting new project whilst enjoying sampling his current release of wines.
