LAST DAYS OF THE DOLPHINARIUM
Urchin Wines 29th Nov – 24th December
Exihibition launch party - 29th Nov 6-9pm (all welcome)
This exhibition is curated by Sadie Hennessy and is an examination and celebration of dying and extinct holiday entertainments. It could be viewed as a metaphor for the decline of civilisation in the Anthropocene age…. or just enjoyed as a slice of seaside nostalgia.
The inspiration for the show came from the Queen’s Motel Dolphinarium which was open between 1969-1977 in Cliftonville. It was in the old swimming pool of the former Butlins and there was a musical fountain outside. The dolphins were called Britt, Speedy and Baby Jan.
LAST DAYS OF THE DOLPHINARIUM is a group show featuring a variety of artists showing lens-based works including photography, film, tintypes, magic lantern, altered postcards, photographic etchings, digital collages and photographic screenprints. Artists to be announced.
Sadie Hennessy is an artist and curator. She is the Screen Print Fellow at the Royal Academy and the impresario behind Whitstable ANchorage Klub’s famous End of the Pier Shows
